Be Healthy, Be Happy, Be You, Be a Color Runner!
On Sunday the 25th November, some of the coreplus Team, along with over 12,000 people attended the Swisse Color Melbourne Run at Flemington Race Course. ‘The Happiest 5km on the Planet’ kicked off in Melbourne, being the first Color Run in Australian History. The run catered for all ages, and was not a race but more a colorful fun run supporting The Australian Paralympic Committee.
At the start of the race each runner wears white. As they run through each kilometre they get colors blasted at them. As part of the Hindu Festival Holi, it is said that it is traditional to throw natural colored powders as the seasons change from winter to spring. Bright colours fill the air as groups called tolis move in colonies and exchange greetings. The Colorful festival celebrates the triumph of ‘good’ over ‘bad’.
After the 5km run, people of all ages continued to dance at the after party where more colors were thrown through the crowd. Families sat through the park area and had lunch while others lined up to get cleaned before leaving the venue.
Over $70,000 has already been raised for the APC that will go towards programs including the APC’s Talent Search Program, which gives young Australians with a disability the opportunity to take part in sport and develop into elite athletes.
